About

Dartmouth Health is a nonprofit academic health system that includes Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, a 396-bed quaternary care hospital with the only Level 1 trauma center and the only air ambulance service in New Hampshire; the Norris Cotton Cancer Center; Dartmouth Health Children’s; and is affiliated with several hospitals in New Hampshire and Vermont. In partnership with the Audrey and Theodor Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and the White River Junction Veterans Administration Medical Center in White River Junction, VT, Dartmouth Health trains nearly 400 residents and fellows annually and performs world-class research. Dartmouth Health is the major referral center for a large and rural catchment area that includes Vermont, New Hampshire, and parts of Maine and New York State.


Our Program:


The Dartmouth Health Cardiothoracic Surgical Advanced Practice Provider Residency Program is an intensive 12-month advanced training program. Your training will be comprised of didactic and clinical curriculums that will occur concomitantly. Our program will provide you with a solid foundation in the diagnosis and management of conditions common to cardiothoracic surgery patients and will include a robust intraoperative experience.


Upon completion of the program, our residents will have the skills to triage, evaluate, treat, and manage cardiac and thoracic problems, and be an independent first-assistant in the operating room. They will master various techniques of conduit harvesting and preparation. In addition, our residents will have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to manage patients with Coronary Artery Disease, Aortic Valve Disease, Mitral Valve Disease, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Aortic Aneurysm, Lung and Esophageal Cancer, Thoracic Disease and Thoracic Trauma.


The goal of the program is to help you grow and develop the surgical, medical, and critical thinking skills required to build a successful career in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) has granted Accreditation-Clinical Postgraduate Program status to the Dartmouth Health Cardiothoracic Surgical APP Residency sponsored by Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center


Accreditation-Clinical Postgraduate Program is the status of accreditation granted when a new or currently accredited clinical postgraduate program is in compliance with the Standards for Clinical Postgraduate Programs. Accreditation- clinical postgraduate program remains in effect until the program closes or withdraws from the accreditation process or until accreditation is withdrawn for failure to comply with the Standards, ARC-PA requirements or procedures.


Accreditation-Clinical Postgraduate Program does not ensure any subsequent accreditation status. It is limited to no more than five years from matriculation of the first class.
